CHAS Accreditations (The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) was created by experienced health and safety professionals in 1997 to improve health and safety standards across the UK. In partnership with the Association of London Government (ALG), CHAS was a key developer of the core criteria held in the Approved Code of Practice which supported the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (now recognised as CDM 2015) and is a founder member of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement).
SMAS is a member of Safety Schemes in Procurement, SSIP. They are a H&S assessment organisation, working with many of the major UK housebuilders developing experience and expertise in new build construction but also other construction organisations.
CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme within the UK construction industry. CSCS cards provide proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. The Scheme keeps a database of people working in construction who have achieved, or are committed to achieving a recognised construction related qualification.
The Street Works Qualifications Register (SWQR) holds details of qualified supervisors and operatives who have gained the appropriate qualifications in relation to the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA). Under this Act, the installation, renewal, maintenance and inspection of underground apparatus in any street or road must be under the control of competent people.
